Hello Chief, I am 1e27. For the purpose of the strategy guide I shall assume you are trying to learn how to rush or are just interested in this and not a stalker/FBI agent. This strategy guide is fairly long, so I hope you are patient, Chief.

Hi, Chief. This strategy guide is meant for people who want to rush. Rushing can be beneficial and better than maxing. This guide is mainly for Home Village Rushing, but mentions Builder Base Rushing a bit. I shall assume that you know how to play clash of clans but are not an expert for this strategy guide. Visit the summary at the end if you are too lazy to read the whole strategy guide, Chief.

Rushing vs. Engineering vs. Maxing[]

The definition for maxing is not 100% agreed on but most people say it means upgrading everything to the maximum level available before upgrading to the next Town Hall. Almost nobody maxes everything at every Town Hall level. Most people will not max the laboratory and many people don't max walls and heroes. The definition for rushing is very unclear and not agreed on at all. Most people say if you avoid maxing MOST buildings you are rushing. Others say rushing is undervaluing offense/defense (depending on who you ask). A third opinion is that if you do not max you are rushing no matter how little you do not max. A 4th and rather uncommon opinion is that rushing is upgrading to the next Town Hall when you have trouble obtaining the necessary resources. For the purpose of the strategy guide we will say that rushing is "if you avoid maxing MOST buildings you are rushing" because that is the most popular opinion in my experience. Engineering has no really popular definition. IMO the most popular opinion is that engineering is rushing but carefully planned. Others say it is overprioritizing offense/defense.

Why do People Rush?[]

Most people rush to unlock powerful troops and spells. Others have one rushed account and one maxed account so that the rushed account can donate powerful troops and spells. Some people rush because they believe it allows them to max Town Hall 14 faster than if they had maxed their base and research at each Town Hall.

Advantages of Rushing Now[]

Rushed players usually attack players who are at a lower Town Hall. In the past attacking players at a lower Town Hall would result in a severe loot penalty that could cause you to only get 5% of the loot available to a player the same Town Hall level as the opponent. Matchmaking did not factor Town Hall level into finding an opponent so because of low trophies all of your opponents would be at low Town Hall levels making the loot penalty for attacking lower Town Halls commonplace so you would spend more gold and elixir on training and skipping then you earned by battling. Now the loot penalty is not a problem, because Town Hall is factored into matchmaking. Town Hall first mattered in matchmaking after the April 2015 update.

As part of the Town Hall 11 update, shields no longer ended when you attacked. Instead, the shield lost time. Rushed players were frequently attacked because attacking a higher Town Hall gives a loot bonus and the bases would be poorly defended. This meant that rushed bases were attacked less due to shields not disappearing. The Season Bank made it so that rushed players could earn 5 million Gold and Elixir which helped with any losses from being attacked. Last but not least, the Star Bonus and Treasury made it so that rushed players could save up large amounts of loot while only 3% of the loot could be stolen per attack regardless of Town Hall level.

The only major downside to rushing now compared to then is that you are required to place all unlocked buildings with a few exceptions. Some clans/players would 'engineer' themselves to have right amount of rushed players who did not get all of their buildings, so that their war weight would be offset by the rushers low amount of buildings placed. This would lead to war attacks by rushed high level Town Halls who were matched against low Town Halls. This messed up the Clan War matchmaking system and led to rushers having advantages in Clan Wars, so I suppose I am glad that this feature was removed (some may disagree).

When should I stop rushing?[]

Upgrade costs begin to get expensive at Town Hall 9 so some people stop rushing at Town Hall 9. Other people rush until they have unlocked a specific troop such as Electro Dragon. Some people will stop rushing at Town Hall 12 because upgrading the Giga Tesla while rushed is hard. Other people stop rushing once they get bored of Clash of Clans. I rushed to Town Hall 12 (with my alt). People often rush to unlock O.T.T.O.

Town Hall and Builder Hall upgrade costs[]

At around Town Hall 9 the upgrade costs for the Town Hall become expensive for rushers. I would suggest using the 5 million gold from the season bank to upgrade the Town Hall. This is also around the time clan games usually end now and that is also worth a bit of gold. For the Builder Base save up the three win bonuses for several days.

Upgrade Priorities[]

There is no set upgrade priority but this is what my normal priorities are, you do not have to upgrade every single thing even one level, though.

Attacking: Laboratory, Barracks, Dark Barracks, Spell Factory, Dark Spell Factory, Army Camps (Important note: If you only have one high-level barracks, it is best to wait for the power boost to end before beginning the upgrade, otherwise you will not be able to use the power boost on powerful troops. I upgrade the laboratory first because of the aforementioned power boost and everybody wants bonus levels)

Defenses depends on your layout but this is what I do: the Defenses you just unlocked, Air Defense, Archer Tower, X-Bow, whatever Chief wants to upgrade.

Resources: Dark Elixir Storage, Dark Elixir Drills, Gold Mines, Elixir Collectors, Gold Storages, Elixir Storages (I do Gold first because it is necessary for the Town Hall upgrades)

Traps: Spring Traps, Giant Bomb, Seeking Air Mine (first on list at TH9+), Tornado Trap, Bomb, Air Bomb, whatever Chief wants to upgrade.


Should I upgrade Heroes?[]

Heroes are extremely important to rushed bases where training times are extremely long. However, Dark Elixir is extremely rare. The best way for rushed bases to get dark elixir is usually by looting other bases. Builder base elixir is relatively common, though. Do not use your heroes every attack just because you feel like it. If you were to use your Archer Queen in an all Miner attack for example (not sure why you would use that strategy if there are flying CC troops, and you need to have the Archer Queen and Miners, Chief) the Archer Queen may mess up any funnels you make to help the Miners target the Town Hall. Using Heroes for no reason may mess up funnels you make and you may end up getting fewer stars because of this. You should still use Heroes obviously, but make sure they are not messing up the funnel.

Gems[]

As a rushed player, builders are important because they allow one to build the required buildings that are needed to reach the next Town Hall level. Gems can also be used to get the resources required to upgrade something. Rushed players generally have shorter upgrade times so they will have a chance to remove obstacles immediately, this means that it is possible for a rushed player to get more gems than a maxed player from obstacles. Achievements can be a good source of immediate gems.

Buying Resources with Gems is actually a loss in low amounts if your primary source of Gems is obstacles. I know that seems counter intuitive, but you can get approximately 212 Gold or Elixir in the Home Village per Gem if you buy in small amounts.* Speeding things up and buying Magic Items can be considered more profitable by this calculation. Clearing Tombstones is generally only useful if you need to switch your base layout as the Elixir given is negligible. However, Dark Tombstones actually give a decent amount of Dark Elixir.


This is the very confusing formula for cost of resources per Gem in Home Village. The Cost of Resource per Gem is decided by the range of Gems in which they are in.

Gold


If you want to buy 5,000 Gold or Elixir, you look at the plateaus and see that 5,000 falls between the 1,000 and 10,000 resource plateaus.


We know the first 1,000 resources cost 5 Gems. The calculations for the rest are based on the slope of the line between the 1,000 and 10,000 Gem resource plateaus. If you buy one million Gold or Elixir you are spending 1 Gem 1.6K Gold or Elixir, this is not profitable (using 3 Gems per tree), so resources have to be brought in giant amounts to be profitable if you get Gems from obstacles.

That yields the following formula:

(5000 - 1000)/((10000 - 1000)/(25 - 5)) + 5= 4000/(9000/20) + 5= 4000/450 + 5≈14 gems

These are Dark Elixir's Plateaus.

If you wanted to buy 150,000 Dark Elixir instead of getting the ruin of Dark Elixir like an intelligent person, Chief, that would yield the following formula:

(150000 - 10000)/((100000 - 10000)/(3000-600)) + 600= 140000/(90000/2400) + 600= 140000/37.5 + 600≈4333 Gems

Alternatively you could calculate it this way: (150000 - 100000)/((100000 - 10000)/(3000-600)) + 3000= 50000/37.5 + 3000≈4333 Gems

These are the plateaus for time. The only difference is that Gem costs always rounds down for time.

60 seconds (1 minute) - 1 Gem

3,600 seconds (1 hour) - 20 Gems

86,400 seconds (1 day) - 260 Gems

604,800 seconds (1 week) - 1,000 Gems

Clans[]

As you doubtlessly have figured out by now, Chief, many clans will not take rushed players or select them for wars. One way to find clans that won't kick you is to look for clan advertisements on this wiki. Another way to avoid getting kicked is to join clans where you will be in the top 25% trophy wise and to donate high-Town Hall level Troops, Spells and Siege Machines. For wars, you will often have to attack weak bases due to the fact that you will have low-level Troops, Spells, Heroes and Siege Machines and less Army Camp space (probably).


Base Layouts[]

Getting three starred with ease is one of the most frustrating experiences in Clash of Clans. To understand how painful it is please view this video and to learn about creating layouts please consult this video. All jokes aside this will hopefully help you avoid losing every single defense.

I would advise rushed players to design their own bases because you might have one level 6 Archer Tower and 4 level three Archer Towers (they really should all be level 6+ even if you are rushed, though). You would have to switch the location of Defensive Buildings and walls around so that all sides are equally protected and that would as long as just designing your own base. Traps that have not been upgraded are drastically weaker so your Traps will have to be relocated as well. Most base layouts funnel troops towards traps and into the range of many Defenses. If Chief has rushed Defenses the Defenses would not be able to kill troops quickly usually so walls would be less effective than traps (in the short term). Funnels are effective for rushed bases when they funnel troops away from the Town Hall. I would not have a core of the base because chain Lightning/Earthquake Spells can be used to take out clustered low-level defenses. You will also have to position walls to maximize their effectiveness for example your X-Bows and Inferno Towers by the Town Hall need to be protected because these defenses are highly effective even when not upgraded.

Mistakes to avoid:

Putting the Town Hall in the corner by itself. Why: You do not get a shield unless 1/3 of the maximum amount of army available at your Town Hall level is deployed by the opponent and they destroy 1/3 of the village. This is free trophies and loot for the attacker. Older bases used to get a shield from one star attacks and such a base was known as a farming base because it cost relatively little loot, for the shield given.

Putting a bunch of bombs in one area at lower Town Hall levels. Why: This strategy just wastes bombs against Barbarians, Archers and Goblins. At higher Town Halls when most troops have high health this strategy works.

Attack Strategies[]

There are many Attack Strategies rushed bases can use. Here are a few:

Lavaloon[]

This is a strategy where Balloons are used to take out Defenses and Lava Hounds are used to shield Balloons from Air Defenses. Remember to take other troops to counter Clan Castle Troops and Heroes or the whole strategy may fail. If you only have one high level Barracks this strategy is effective because it does not cost much elixir to unlock Balloons for a Barracks so the overall training time will be relatively low.

LavaLoonion[]

This is a variant of Lavaloon where Minions are used for cleanup because Balloons and Lava Hounds target defenses. I prefer this strategy because Minions will attack Clan Castle troops as soon as they are detected.

Coco Loons[]

Balloons are used to try to get rid of traps, especially Seeking Air Mines. This is combined with other strategies such as the Queen Walk.

WiPE[]

This is a relatively common strategy where P.E.K.K.As are deployed to shield troops and Wizards are deployed to deal high damage to buildings. This strategy does not require much training time since Barracks do not have to be high level to be capable of training Wizards so they can be trained quickly. However, P.E.K.K.As have longer training times and only a few are used usually.

GoWiPE[]

This is a variation of WiPE where Golems are used as shields. Golems have higher health than P.E.K.K.As and splitting makes them more resistant to single-target Inferno Towers.

Hog Rider Rush[]

A large amount of Hog Riders is deployed. This strategy is vulnerable to Clan Castle Troops (especially Valkyries), Heroes and Giant Bombs.

Queen Walk[]

An Archer Queen is deployed with three to five Healers to destroy outer buildings. This is a very popular strategy, your Archer Queen should be level 5+, ideally 20+ to deal with Clan Castle Electro Dragons.

Queen Charge[]

This is a variant of the Queen Walk where Archer Queen deployed with three to five Healers to destroy important defenses or Clan Castle Troops instead of obtaining value.

Mass Drag/Drag Spam[]

An all or mostly Dragon army is deployed. This strategy works on most bases below Town Hall 10 but is not effective at higher Town Hall levels.

Zap Drag[]

Variant of Drag Spam where Lightning Spell is used to destroy Air Defenses.

E-Drag Spam[]

An all or mostly Electro Dragon army is used. Very popular at Town Hall 11 and 12. Probably the easiest high level attack to use. Not very sophisticated. Everybody claims to hate it but most experienced CoC players have used it.

Barch[]

A Barbarian-Archer army is used. It is generally 50-50 one of the most common low level attacks. Ineffective after Town Hall 6.

GiBarch[]

A variant of Barch where Giants are used as shields.

GiWizBarch[]

A variant of GiBarch where Wizards are used as damage dealers.

Funneling[]

This can refer to destroying certain buildings to lead troops to a destination or to arranging your base so that troops will head towards traps/walls.

Dealing With Defenses[]


Troops[]

As you probably know Clan Castle troops can destroy armies more effectively than any defenses. I have seen many war attacks fail because the defender has a CC Dragon and the attacker is not capable of destroying it. Some common examples are Hog Rider Rushes failing to Valkyries; Lavaloon failing to Electro Dragons and GiBarch failing to Wizards.

Troop How to counter.

P.E.K.K.A[]

swarm them with low health troops, or use flying troops while luring gradually with ground troops

Valkyrie[]

use flying troops, while luring with archers, at low levels use an archer ring

Dragon[]

use wizards, archers, minions, or your own dragons

Balloon[]

Use air troops to get rid of them, ground troops and/or spells.

Lava Hound[]

Sometimes there is no need to destroy CC Lava Hounds because of their low dps. Wizards, Archers and Minions destroy them effectively though.

Electro Dragon[]

use your own Electro Dragon plus Rage and Poison or use 20 minions, or use a bunch or archers, see these videos for reference on destroying Electro Dragons

Inferno Dragon[]

Archer and/or Minion swarms are quite effective

Super Archer[]

Use tanky troops instead of swarms

Super Witch[]

kill the Super Witch however you can first then swarm Big Boy or kill it using flying troops while luring with low housing space ground troops.

Wall Breaker[]

If you have trouble with this then I think you should try a bit harder to learn how to play.

Super Valkyrie[]

One of the new Super Troops. I have not faced it yet so if you have any advice please tell me. Use archer circles or flying troops; I guess.

Super Wizard[]

One of the new Super Troops. I have not faced it yet so if you have any advice please tell me. Use wizards or P.E.K.K.As I guess.

Raged Barbarian[]

Technically not a Clan Castle Troop but found in the Guard Post. . . You generally don't need to edit your strategy on account of Guard Posts but Raged Barbarians or flying troops work.

Sneaky Archer[]

Technically not a Clan Castle Troop but found in the Guard Post. You generally don't need to edit your strategy on account of Guard Posts but Raged Barbarians and swarms work.


Defending Heroes[]

Barbarian King info

Barbarian King - The easiest hero to kill when he is defending, use flying troops or place ranged troops/heroes; the Barbarian King will never go farther than 9 tiles from the Barbarian King Altar, so ranged troops placed 10 tiles away can shoot him without taking damage from him (they may walk into his detection range when he wanders away); this also makes it impossible to lure a Barbarian King that much, so this can be a disadvantage too.

Archer Queen - As with all Heroes she can be easily swarmed.

Grand Warden - The least dangerous Hero on defense, can be safely ignored or the Grand Warden Altar can be destroyed with Lightning Spells.

Royal Champion - Use high DPS troops or swarms to kill her, Poison Spells help but are not necessary.

Battle Machine - Does not defend

Training Times[]

Many rushed players purposefully have low Trophies due to smaller Army Camps, longer training times, costs being relatively higher and low Troop levels. For example, a rushed Town Hall 8 may be in Silver III so that they do not lose that many resources. This will reduce the amount of training time because the Army required will be weaker. Others purposefully look for bases where the Town Hall is in the corner of the bases or there is a spawn point near the Town Hall. This is known as Town Hall sniping. Other players log on once every few hours instead of all at once so that their Army will be trained when they log on. This does not apply to Builder Base, Chief.

Summary[]

Rushing is avoiding upgrading most buildings to the maximum level. Most people max nearly all buildings. It is better to buy Magic Items than spending Gems directly most of the time. It is much easier to rush now than a few years ago. Try to make your own bases but darkbarbarian.com is a good source. Upgrade your Town Hall at the end of the season. Obstacles are your main source of Gems. Electro Dragons are the best Clan Castle Troops according to the majority of players. Archer Queen is considered the best Hero.
