Summary
- The Cannon is a single-target defense that deals moderate damage. It is the first defensive structure that a player builds at the start of their Clash of Clans adventure. The player is required to build one during the tutorial.
- Cannons are both cheap and quick to upgrade at lower levels.
- Cannons can shoot any ground unit, such as Barbarians and Archers, but it can't shoot any air units, such as Dragons, Balloons, etc.
- Starting from level 7, which requires Town Hall 6, the Master Builder can gear up a Cannon to make it resemble a Double Cannon, if he is available. This also requires at least one Double Cannon in the Builder Base to be level 4 or higher, which requires Builder Hall 4.
Strategies
Defensive Strategy
- Cannons have a high rate of fire and a decent range, which makes them an ideal deterrent for Wall Breakers (which have very low hitpoints). They can also pick off Archers or Wizards that are used in an attempt to set a funnel.
- Cannons are very useful for keeping Giants from attacking other defenses.
- You can defend Mortars and Wizard Towers by placing them within range of Cannons.
- Make sure Cannons are placed within range of Air Defenses, because Cannons are unable to target air units (or at least in range of an Archer Tower or Wizard Tower which can also target air units).
- They can also synergize well with Air Defenses specifically.
- Upgrade these structures and Mortars first at lower levels, as they are one of your main ground defenses. They are also fairly cheap and are among the most common defensive structures available, which makes them a good initial investment for defense.
- As the description implies, they are best used for point defenses, so putting them a bit outside of your base would be effective.
- At Town Hall 5 (and above), if two Cannons are placed near each other, it could be a great help as sometimes players mostly try to go for the Archer Towers using Giants, which makes them shotguns thus killing Giants easily.
- A geared up Cannon is highly ineffective against swarms of smaller troops due to its slow rate of fire. It may deal lots of damage, but most of its cannonball shots prove useless due to smaller troops dying in few hits and is easily overwhelmed, due to its sluggish retargeting time.
- In contrast, however, geared up cannons are more effective against single target, high hitpoint troops. It can easily decimate medium troops, such as Giants, Hog riders, Valkryies and Miners (if they are by themselves), and can deal tons of damage to Golems, Ice Golems, and P.E.K.K.As. Because of this, geared up cannons should be placed further within the base rather than outside to maximize their damage output. (This strategy is best for town halls 7-11)
Offensive Strategy
- Cannons are one of the defensive buildings that cannot attack air units. This makes them easy pickings for Balloons, Dragons, or Minions if they are not within the range of Air Defenses, Archer Towers, X-Bows (on ground and air mode), Hidden Teslas, or Wizard Towers.
- Cannons are only able to damage one unit at a time. This makes it very easy to overwhelm them with large groups of Archers or Barbarians. They can also be overwhelmed with higher health units such as Giants or P.E.K.K.As.
- Strong solo troops such as the Super Barbarian or Valkyrie can destroy a Cannon even when surrounded by trash buildings if it has low support.
Upgrade Differences
- Cannons undergo significant visual changes at levels 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20. The Cannon barrel and support platform both increase in size at almost every level.
- When initially constructed, it consists of a short dark metal barrel mounted on a crude four-legged circular wooden platform.
- At level 2, the base receives a wooden stabilizer tied to the legs with ropes.
- At level 3, the leg stabilizer becomes stouter. The base itself rotates 45 degrees within the 3x3 square (ostensibly to accommodate the later, larger upgrades of the Cannon).
- At level 4, the barrel receives two decorative latitudinal ridges, one midway along the barrel and one at the rear. The platform's leg stabilizer is removed in favor of a larger and stouter main support platform with much shorter legs.
- At level 5, the wooden legs are replaced with metal ones and its metal ring which it pivots on gets wider.
- At level 6, the base receives a pair of what appear to be metal plates bolted on opposite sides of the platform to anchor the barrel more firmly to the rotational mount. The pivot it sits on is replaced with metal as well.
- At level 7, the wooden base is discarded for a white stone platform with four short gold-trimmed legs. The barrel's decorative center ridge is trimmed with a ring of gold.
- At level 8, the other decorative ridge around the rear of the barrel also receives gold trimming, as well as a pair of opposing gold plate securing it to the platform.
- At level 9, it receives a third gold-trimmed decorative ridge around the muzzle of the barrel, and two additional thicker gold plates perpendicular to the first pair. The plates also receive a steel bolt with a gold top on each end.
- At level 10, the barrel is entirely made of gold. The main body of the Cannon barrel receives triangular reinforcing plates. The top of the base gain some gold spikes filling in the space the straps does not cover. The platform's legs become dark metal trimmed in gold with small gold spikes.
- At level 11, the barrel is transformed into black metal. The triangular plates become bigger. The ring behind the muzzle become more flat and used a lighter grey metal. The gold spikes on the base also turns into black metal and the legs becomes prominent black crystal footings.
- At level 12, it has a red hot ring behind the muzzle. The muzzle changes from smooth to plated. The triangular plates gains an outline glowing orange because of the heat. The gold strap on the base receives a dark red band and the black metal spikes are removed. The footings are now black rocks surrounding a red crystals as the footing, similar to the level 4 X-Bow's base.
- At level 13, the triangular plates turn into more of a kite shape, the orange outline is a lot more pronounced and a kite-shaped spike is added between the plates. The barrel is now sleeker and raised. The barrel looks a little shorter than the level 12. The barrel is lined with strips fastened with gold nails over the red hot ring behind the muzzle. The gold strap on the base turns to a dark-gray metal and the white part is replaced with red. The black rocks in the footings turn golden.
- At level 14, it levitates above a pool of lava. The triangular plates change to a trapezoidal shape and the rectangle bars in the back of the Cannon becomes gold, the orange outline cover it too. The hemisphere at the back is also heated up to an orange color. The barrel is a lot shorter than level 13. The strips fastened with nails are now fused to the Cannon itself, the nails become spiky and the ring inside now glows orange as well. The inner muzzle has a silvery color it glows in dim red. The base becomes a white stone structure and a layer of gold linings surrounding a lava pool. Each corner has a cube with three golden spikes protruding.
- At level 15, the barrel becomes octagonal shaped with two metal bands around the front of the barrel, with the back one held in place with golden bolts and a small golden ring hanging from a fitting on each side. In between these two metal bands is a glowing yellow. The rear of the barrel is secured with metallic fittings replacing the trapezoidal plates. The muzzle itself is much larger. The base gains some black stone pieces on the corners replacing the spikes and golden straps covering between the corners.
- At level 16, instead of being suspended above a lava pool, the body has now connected to the base once again. The band around the muzzle is now even bigger and more octagonal; The band with golden bolts now is fully made of gold covering the yellow glow. The kite-shaped spike and the metallic fitting is replaced with spikes. The base now has dark gray metal corners being nailed down and has a two-step blue floor and gold details around the corners.
- At level 17, the golden band now has spikes similar the main body of level 16, while the main body is now grooved rather than spiked, and the back of the Cannon is also golden. The gold details on the base are more pronounced, and on the corner, golden pentagonal bolts replace the normal nail.
- At level 18, the body is now a dark turquoise and the barrel has a purple lining. The golden kite-shaped spikes and fittings returns, with the fittings connects the main body and the front of the cannon with turquoise spike on top. The muzzle is covered with a golden band and under the band it becomes purple. The base is now turquoise, the corners the same dark turquoise on the cannon and corners gain footings similar to the fittings. The edges also have what looks like level 5 walls on its side. The inner muzzle shine, most of the kite-shaped spikes and the bolt on the corners of the base turn into a snow blue metal.
- At level 19, the main body of the barrel has more gold extending to the muzzle. The fittings on the main body also gets a layer gold covering most of it and the spike, the front of the fitting is sharpened. The kite-shaped spikes are now more flat and triangular. The bass ring has gotten bigger and shinier. The base has spikes on the edges and its footings are larger.
- At level 20, the body is now a purplish-black. The main body has a thick golden square wave pattern in a ring of groove. A thin ring of gold band with a small triangle is extended with a green metal with the same pattern. The golden muzzle is covered in a layer of the purplish-black stone with the inner muzzle purple ring turn green, purplish-black and shines green. The base is filled with greenish water. The corners are made of the purplish-black stone with gold lining on it, with the connection looks like level 3 walls with a purple tint.
- The appearances of the cannonball change with level.
- When first constructed, it is light grey and extremely small.
- At level 2, it becomes bigger.
- At level 4, it becomes even bigger and darker.
- At level 6, it gains spikes all over.
- At level 8, it is glowing a faint yellow.
- At level 10, it is a dodecahedron with a small gap between each pentagonal pyramidal plates.
- At level 12, the shape doesn't change but it is red hot with an orange glow around it with fire particles when traveling.
- At level 13, it is a lot bigger, glowing in bright yellow and the fine particles are a lot more pronounced.
- At level 20, it glows green instead of yellow.
- Gearing up the Cannon adds an additional, identical barrel alongside the original one. Also, the ridges which surround Cannons (starting from level 7) get extended and appear to surround both the Cannons, which makes it appear as if two cannons merged into one. However, the one exception is the level 20 Cannon, where the two cannons are barely touching at all.

Trivia
- When viewing your village, the Cannons will appear to aim randomly about. However, they will always be (generally) aiming away from the Town Hall. If the Cannons (or the Town Hall) are moved, the Cannons will instantly orient themselves to point away from the Town Hall's new relative location. This remains true even when the Cannons are being upgraded (except that upgrading Cannons always instantaneously point directly away from the Town Hall with no random movement).
- The Cannon's barrel expands slightly whenever it shoots.
- If the details of the Cannon are opened immediately after gearing up, it will display the DPS as half that of a normal Cannon instead of burst information. This is likely a bug and easily fixed by reloading the game.
- In the Single Player Campaign, the Cannon that appears in the "Payback" level is weaker than a normal level 1 Cannon, doing only 2 damage per second and only having 250 hitpoints. Oddly, that Cannon is also not considered a defensive building.
Comparisons
- The Cannon is 1 of 5 defensive buildings in the Home Village that originated from Clash of Clans and appear in Clash Royale, the others being Mortar, Hidden Tesla, X-Bow, and the Inferno Tower.
- In Clash Royale, the Cannon resembles a level 4 Cannon from Clash of Clans.
- The card "Royal Giant" also wields a level 7 Cannon from Clash of Clans, and when he is upgraded to Star Level 2 or above, this cannon takes the appearance of a level 10 Cannon from Clash of Clans.
- In Clash Royale, the Cannon resembles a level 4 Cannon from Clash of Clans.
- The Cannon is 1 of 9 defensive buildings in the Home Village that originated from Clash of Clans and appear in Clash Quest, the others being Walls, Archer Tower, Mortar, Air Defense, Wizard Tower, Hidden Tesla, X-Bow, and the Inferno Tower.
- The Cannon and Archer Tower have 20 upgrade levels, the most of any building in the game, if the separate upgrades of the Town Hall's Giga Tesla and Giga Inferno are excluded.
- The Cannon, Town Hall, Builder's Hut (when activated), and Bomb Tower are the only buildings to have a golden meander pattern at TH14 theme.
- The Cannon, Walls, Archer Tower, Mortar, Air Defense, and Wizard Tower are the oldest defenses in the game.
- The Cannon is one of the several defenses to appear in a loading screen image, the others being the Walls, Archer Tower, Wizard Tower, Eagle Artillery, Mortar, Air Defense (its rockets) and the Mega Tesla.
- The Cannon and Walls are also the first defenses to appear in a loading screen image.

Summary
- Cannons are the first defensive building in the Builder Base. They are unlocked at Builder Hall level 2 (they are fixed from their ruin).
- Cannons are both cheap and quick to upgrade at lower levels.
- Cannons can shoot any ground units, such as Raged Barbarians, but not any air units, such as Beta Minions or Baby Dragons.
Strategies
Defensive Strategy
- Cannons have a high rate of fire and a decent range.
- Cannons are very good point defenses that can deal massive damage to ground tanks, as long as they are protected.
- You can defend with splash damaging defenses such as Multi Mortars and Crushers by placing them within range of Cannons.
- Make sure Cannons are placed within range of Firecrackers or Air Bombs, because Cannons are unable to target air units.
- Upgrade these structures first at lower levels, as they are one of your main ground defenses. They are also the cheapest and one of the most common defensive structure available, which makes them a good initial investment.
Offensive Strategy
- Cannons are one of the few defensive structures that cannot attack air units. This makes them easy pickings for Beta Minions or Baby Dragons if they are not within range of Firecrackers, Archer Towers, Hidden Teslas, or Air Bombs.
- The Beta Minions' Long Shot ability allows them to destroy a Cannon while out of range if there are enough and placed correctly.
- Cannons are only able to damage one unit at a time. This makes it very easy to overwhelm them with large groups of Sneaky Archers or Raged Barbarians.
- You can destroy a lone Cannon without any distraction buildings with three Sneaky Archers of relative level.
Upgrade Differences
- Cannons undergo significant changes at levels 2, 3, 4, and 7. Their upgrade differences correspond to Cannons in the Home Village of equal level.
- At level 1, the Cannon consists of a short dark metal barrel mounted on a crude, four-legged wooden platform.
- At level 2, the Cannon's base receives a wooden stabilizer tied to the legs with ropes.
- At level 3, the Cannon's leg stabilizer becomes stouter and the Cannon becomes larger. The base itself rotates 45 degrees within the 3x3 square (ostensibly to accommodate the later, larger upgrades of the Cannon).
- At level 4, the Cannon barrel receives two decorative latitudinal ridges, one midway along the barrel and one at the rear. The platform's leg stabilizer is removed in favor of a larger and stouter main support platform with much shorter legs.
- At level 5, the Cannon base's wooden legs are replaced with metal ones and its metal ring which it pivots on gets wider.
- At level 6, pieces of metal bolted by a metal bolt are added to the side of the Cannon.
- At level 7, the wooden base is discarded for a white stone or metal platform with four short brass-trimmed legs. The Cannon barrel's decorative center ridge is trimmed with a ring of brass.
- At level 8, the other decorative ridge around the rear of the barrel also receives brass trimming, as well as a pair of opposing brass straps or clamps securing it to the platform.
- At level 9, the Cannon receives a third brass-trimmed decorative ridge around the muzzle of the barrel, and two additional brass straps or clamps perpendicular to the first pair. The straps or clamps also receive a bolt on each end.
- The appearances of the cannonball changes with the level of the Cannon.
- When first constructed, the cannon shoots small, light grey color balls.
- At level 2, it shoots bigger balls.
- At level 4, the balls becomes even bigger and becomes darker.
- At level 6, it gains spikes around the ball.
- At level 7, the ball becomes bigger again.
- At level 8, the ball that is shot now glows.
Trivia
- The Cannon is automatically repaired when the player upgrades to Builder Hall level 2, even though the Master Builder does not appear to repair it.
- When viewing your village, the Cannons will appear to aim randomly about. However, they will mostly be aiming away from the Builder Hall. If the Cannons (or the Builder Hall) are moved, the Cannons will instantly orient themselves to point away from the Builder Hall's new relative location. This remains true even when the Cannons are being upgraded, though it will not move.
- The Cannon's barrel expands slightly whenever it shoots.
- According to the description, the Cannon makes the Master Builder a bit sentimental.
- The Cannon is one of the two Defensive Buildings (the other being Hidden Tesla) which has a same texture with the Home Village counterpart at every level.
- In Clash Royale, the Cannon resembles a level 4 Cannon from Clash of Clans.

Summary
- Cannons are among the first defensive buildings unlocked in the Clan Capital, available at Clan Capital level 1.
- The Cannon is a single-target defense that deals moderate damage. Compared to Cannons in the Home Village and Builder Base, they have a much slower fire rate but have better damage per shot in return.
- Cannons are cheap to upgrade with your clanmates at lower levels.
- Cannons can shoot any ground unit, such as Super Barbarians and Sneaky Archers, but it can't shoot any air units, such as Flying Fortresses, Minion Hordes, etc.
Strategies
Defensive Strategy
- Cannon, like the ones in the Home Village and Builder Base, have a high rate of fire and deals a decent amount of damage. They can be an ideal deterrent for ground troops that have low hitpoints such as Super Barbarians and Super Wizards. Also, their expertise is showcased for keeping Sneaky Archers at bay from chipping down defenses using their ability.
- Cannons are feasible for keeping Super Giants from attacking other defenses.
- Splash defenses which are weaker against high-health troops, such as Multi Mortars and Super Wizard Towers, can be defended by placing Cannons within their ranges.
- To cover for their weakness, the air units, make sure to place them within range of Air Defenses and Spear Throwers. This is because they do not have the ability to target air units, making them vulnerable and useless.
- Communicating with your clanmates to upgrade Cannons more often can be very promising. As Cannons can be upgraded with a cheap amount of Capital Gold, it can be beneficial to keep attackers away from the District Halls and the Capital Hall.
- Putting Cannons two tiles behind walls can prevent Sneaky Archers from directly targeting them, allowing the Cannon to one-shot them in return when their ability wears off.
Offensive Strategy
- Cannons cannot attack air units. This makes them easy pickings for Minion Hordes or Rocket Balloons if they are not within the range of defenses that can target air units such as Air Defenses or Spear Throwers.
- Cannons are only able to damage one unit at a time. This makes it very easy to overwhelm them with large groups of troops such as Sneaky Archers or Skeletons from Skeleton Barrels. They can also be overwhelmed with higher health units such as Super Giants or Mountain Golems.
- Strong solo troops such as Super Barbarians can destroy a Cannon even when surrounded by trash buildings if it has low support.
Upgrade Differences
- Cannons undergo significant visual changes at levels 3, 4, and 5.
- When initially rebuilt, it consists of a dark metal barrel mounted on a crude six-legged hexagonal wooden platform. Also, it is also surrounded by dark metal cannonballs.
- At level 2, it is mounted with bolts and the barrel appears to be thicker than before. It receives a elevated platform and the base receives a stone foundation and wooden supports across each legs.
- At level 3, the platform is more elevated and is still made from wood. The base receives a second foundation made from stone and it is added with stone supports across the feet. Also, the wooden supports on the legs are replaced with pieces of metal. The surrounding dark metal cannonballs also increased in number.
- At level 4, the cannon's barrel is reinforced in a white casing with gold trim. The knob at the back part of the cannon seems to be darker and bolted.
- At level 5, the cannon's barrel becomes hexagonal in shape and the cannon itself increase in size. The half part near the knob receives large metal spikes. The legs that were made entirely of stone become thicker and receive trims that are also made with gold. The surrounding dark metal cannonballs once again increased in number.
Trivia
- When viewing the Clan Capital, the Cannons will appear to aim randomly about. However, they will always be (generally) aiming away from the Capital Hall and District Halls. If the Cannons (or the Capital/District Hall) are moved, the Cannons will instantly orient themselves to point away from the Capital/District Hall's new relative location. This remains true even when the Cannons are being upgraded (except that upgrading Cannons always instantaneously point directly away from the Capital/District Hall with no random movement).
- The Cannon's barrel expands slightly whenever it shoots.
