Summary
- Blocking is a method where administrators technically prevent users from editing the Clash of Clans Wiki. These blocks can be applied to various entities, including entire pages, user accounts, specific IP addresses, and even IP address ranges, for a defined or indefinite duration. Users who are blocked from editing any page, including their own profiles, can still access the wiki. A site-wide blocked user can often only change their personal user chat page.
- Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Clash of Clans Wiki, not to punish users. Any user may report disruption and ask administrators to consider blocking a disruptive account or IP address).
- If an editor believes a block was issued incorrectly, they can request a review via their Message Wall. Administrators can then unblock users if they find the block no longer appropriate or unwarranted.
- Punishments are conducted on a case-by-case basis, meaning they may not match what is stated here, and repeated or more severe violations will result in a harsher punishment.
- Banning, which is a formal retraction of editing powers on all or part of numerous Fandom wikis, including the Clash of Clans Wiki, is not the same as blocking. While bans do not prevent a user from editing pages, blocks do. Users who violate the terms of a partial ban or are subject to a complete ban will have their access to the site terminated to enforce the ban.
Purpose and Goals
- Blocks are implemented to safeguard the project from potential threats and mitigate future issues. These measures are implemented to safeguard the project and its users from disruption and inappropriate behavior, serving as a deterrent against future occurrences. Administrators wield the authority to implement blocking measures, but this power must be exercised judiciously. They must possess a thorough understanding of the context before taking action and be prepared to provide clear justifications for any block issued.
- It is generally inappropriate to reopen an issue that has been closed, especially if it has been inactive for a period and the associated disruption has ended. Various dispute resolution processes are available to facilitate communication and address any ongoing issues that may require user feedback.
- Decisions regarding requests for unblocking are subject to appeal. The process aims to balance the need to address individual cases while also promoting preventative measures. If a user consents to stop and has learned from the incident, or if the issue was temporary and resolved, they may be unblocked sooner. A user who exhibits a history of inappropriate behavior following previous unblocks may be denied further unblocking, serving as a deterrent and highlighting the need for demonstrable behavioral change.
Blocks should not be punitive
Blocks are not used:
- to retaliate;
- to disdain;
- to punish; or
- if there no present conduct concerns.
Blocks should be preventative
Blocks should be used to:
- ensure the cessation of ongoing or impending disruptions to the wiki, including the mitigation of current disruptive behavior;
- prevent further disruption and harm to the wiki; and
- foster a more collaborative and efficient editing environment that adheres to established guidelines.
Common rationales for blocking
The following are some of the most common rationales for blocks.
As a rule of thumb, when in doubt, do not block; instead, consult other administrators for advice. After placing a potentially controversial block, it is a good idea to make a note of the block at the administrators' incidents noticeboard for peer review.
Administrators should take special care when dealing with new users. Beginning editors are often unfamiliar with the Clash of Clans Wiki's policies and conventions, and so their behavior may initially appear to be disruptive. Responding to these new users with excessive force can discourage them from editing in the future.
Protection
A user may be blocked when necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Clash of Clans Wiki, its sister wikis, its users, or the public. A block for protection may be necessary in response to:
- persistent or severe personal attacks;
- personal, professional, or legal threats (including other Fandom wikis);
- actions placing users in danger;
- disclosures of others' personal information (whether or not the information is accurate);
- persistent copyright violations;
- persistent posts of unreferenced, poorly or incorrectly referenced, or potentially defamatory information about living persons; or
- an account appearing to have been compromised (as an emergency measure), i.e. there is some reason to believe the account is being used by someone other than the person who registered the account.
When blocking in response to personal information disclosures or actions that puts users in danger, consider notifying a Staff Member as well as contacting someone with administrative permissions to request deletion of the material in question.
Disruption
Users who engage in disruptive behavior, such as actions that hinder collaboration and violate the collaborative spirit of the wiki, may be subject to being blocked. A block for disruption may be necessary in response to:
- vandalism;
- uncivil behavior;
- harassment;
- spamming;
- breaching the policies or guidelines, especially sock puppetry;
- attempts to coerce actions of editors through threats of actions outside the Wikipedia processes, whether onsite or offsite;
- advising, commanding, comforting, counseling, or suggesting another editor to disruptively edit.
Edit warring often results in a block, either from the pages the user is disrupting or from the entire Fandom site.
Disruption-only
Some types of user accounts are considered disruptive and may be blocked without warning, usually indefinitely:
- Accounts used exclusively for disruptive purposes, such as vandalism.
- Accounts that appear, based on their edit history, to exist for the sole or primary purpose of promoting a person, company, product, service, or organization.
- Accounts with inappropriate usernames.
- Public accounts (where the password is publicly available or shared with a large group).
Enforcing bans
A ban is a formal revocation of editing privileges on all or part of the Clash of Clans Wiki. A ban may be temporary and of fixed duration, or indefinite and potentially permanent.
Blocks may be imposed as a technical measure to enforce a ban. Such blocks are based on the particulars of the ban. Bans that apply to all of the Clash Wiki—that is, they are not partial—may be backed up by a sitewide block, which is usually set to apply for the period of the ban. Other bans may be enforced with a partial block.
When blocking may not be used
Administrator conflicts and involvement
Instead of blocking users involved in a disagreement, administrators should report the issue to other administrators or a bureaucrat for resolution. Administrators should be informed of any potential conflicts between pages or subject areas. If vandalism is found within an administrator's user space, they have the right to block the perpetrator.
Cool-down blocks
It is generally advisable to avoid using blocks intended to soothe agitated individuals, as they often backfire. However, if disruptive behavior is reported from an angry user, they may be temporarily blocked to mitigate further disruption.
Recording in the block log
The practice of using blocks solely for logging warnings or other negative events is considered inappropriate. This practice, often characterized by brief durations, can be perceived as humiliating and punitive.
In the event of an unintentional or unjust block, very brief blocks may be used to document, for instance, an apology or recognition of error in the block log, provided that the initial block has expired. (If not, the message might be noted as the reason for unblocking.)
Against the blocking administrator
Only in exceptional circumstances, when a pressing and immediate need arises, such as the case of a compromised account, a blocked administrator can block the blocking administrator. Engaging in actions to escalate or retaliate against the administrator who initially blocked you is strictly forbidden. If you are unsure about the appropriateness of your actions, consult a bureaucrat for guidance.

Consequences (Notes)
Verbal Message
Minor, first-time offenses may be forgiven through informal reprimands, often communicated through messages or replies.- Avoid using languages aside from English. This is to prevent a language barrier. There are also wikis of this kind in different languages.
- Do not ask to become a staff member. You have to earn it first.
Notice
It is usually given to users who have made first-time violations, more specifically minor violations.- Do not minimod, or act like a staff member when you are not one. Report to a real staff member if you find a situation that needs attention.
- Do not edit user profiles that do not belong to you without permission.
- Do not spam, as it can cover something up and cause a disruption. Minor spam, particularly ones that are simply unneeded, will result in a reminder.
- Do not use profanity. Bypasses, including censoring or acronyms, are still not allowed and will result in a reminder, regardless of how much is censored.
- The only exception to this rule is "lmao."
Warning
It is usually given to users who have made more severe violations.- Do not spam, as it can cover something up and cause a disruption. Severe spam, particularly ones that flood a page, making it hard to scroll, will result in a warning.
- Do not use profanity in any way shape or form. This includes bypassing, partial censorship, or acronyms.
- Do not delete a Staff Member's notice or warning templates. It negates the purpose of reminding someone of their errors, as it hides it from their view unless a Staff Member restores it. The only exception is:
- If a staff member states that the warning is null.
- Do not advertise anything, including wikis or social media, on anywhere except your profile.
- Do not abuse wiki features. Minor cases, specifically short ones that do not ruin a page, will result in a warning.
- Do not engage in edit wars, for it will cause disruption on a certain page. Talk to a staff member about a certain edit to check if it is permitted. Short edit wars will result in a warning.
- Do not start or encourage toxicity, drama, harassment, or bullying. Minor cases will result in a warning.
- E-dating will also lead to a warning, as it is very weird.
Tempoarary Block/Ban
- For the chart, see #Consequences (Table).
- Do not engage in edit wars, for it will cause disruption on a certain page. Talk to a staff member about a certain edit to check if it is permitted. Prolonged edit wars, especially after a clear explanation is provided, will result in a ban.
- Do not post gory scenes. Unless the content is way too gory, it will result in a temporary block.
- Do not start or encourage toxicity, harassment, bullying, or drama. Major cases will result in a ban.
- Any discussion post suggesting that you are leaving the wiki results in a block, dependent on reasoning and purpose.
- Do not abuse wiki features. Major cases, especially ones that do more to ruin a page or are continuous, will result in a ban. [Punishment: 1 week — 1 month.]
- Do not add or show fake content to the wiki as if it was real.
- Vandalism on this wiki is prohibited. Minor cases will result in a block.
- Do not present yourself with an inappropriate username, profile picture, or masthead. Usernames that indicate impersonation also fall under this category. You will be blocked until you change the things that you are asked to change. [Block Time: until the appropriate changes have been made.]
- Do not attempt to evade a block given to you by creating a new account. If you are caught, all of your found alternate accounts will receive a permanent ban, and your main account will receive an extension.
Indefinite Block/Ban
This is the most severe form of punishment a user can receive, aside from global bans. It is reserved for individuals whose actions have been demonstrably unacceptable and warrant a permanent ban from this wiki.- Do not post or link to NSFW, including gory, illegal, explicit, or sexual content.
- Do not abuse wiki features. Ones that severely damage the wiki will result in an indefinite block.
- Do not start or encourage toxicity, harassment, bullying, or drama. Very severe cases will result in an indefinite block.
- Do not add or show fake content to the wiki as if it was real. Deliberately repeating the same thing to prove that something fake is genuine will result in an indefinite block.
- Vandalism will result in an indefinite block if:
- It is intentional or severe.
- It is one of your first edits, in which it will be treated as trolling regardless of the type of vandalism.
- Trolling on this wiki is prohibited.
- Impersonating someone, whether they are a user of this wiki or otherwise, is not allowed. An indefinite block does not apply to cases relating to usernames.
- Do not raid wikis, whether it is on this wiki or another wiki. If you are caught trying to promote a raid, you will be blocked and reported to your related or target wikis, or even worse, globally banned.
- Do not attempt to evade a block given to you by creating a new account. If you are caught and your original ban reasons and durations are malicious enough or you have ban evaded twice, all accounts caught will be permanently banned.
Any Questions?
If you have any questions about why you were blocked and/or banned, of if you think the block is too severe, please consult a Staff Member or contact Fandom Staff.
