Strategies
Offensive Strategy
*Enemies need a 2x2 clear space for a Hidden Tesla, evaluate the worst place for a Tesla placement and deploy accordingly.

*Sneaky Archers can show you the location of a Hidden Tesla, even when invisible. Placing one Sneaky Archer of the relative level or will be able to take down the Hidden Tesla.
  +
*You can use the Villagers clapping to identify the location of the Hidden Tesla, as the villagers will 'approve' nothing (which is really a Hidden Tesla). This will only work during the planning time however, and has the potential to back fire if you only focus on the Villagers during this time.
  +
*At Builder Hall 6 or higher, it is sometimes possible to deduce the number of Hidden Teslas placed on a stage, due to the quota of defensive buildings. Knowing this number for the first stage is useful, as one can plan their attacks for both stages accordingly. If one counts non-Tesla defenses and finds this number equals the quota, this means that there will not be any Hidden Teslas on the stage, and that they are all placed on the other stage.
  +
**On the other hand, it may also be possible to deduce the number of Hidden Teslas based on the minimum number of defensive buildings on a stage (this number equals the difference between the stage quota and total defenses available). For example, at Builder Hall 10 (where the minimum number of defenses on a stage is 13, assuming the X-Bow is built), counting only 10 non-Teslas on a stage means that all three Hidden Teslas will be present on that stage.

Defensive Strategy
*The Hidden Tesla can be used to lure your opponent into an air attack, then take out the air units quite quickly. This is very effective at Builder Hall level 3 as they only have Beta Minions; when your opponent destroys your Firecrackers and Archer Tower, they will send in their Beta Minions only to get destroyed by your Hidden Tesla.
  +
*You can place a Hidden Tesla at the corner of a base (far away from everything else on the base) as a tactic to stall enemy attacks. If the enemy deploys their full army before achieving 51% (or otherwise revealing the Tesla), they will not have anything to immediately deal with the corner Tesla, which can stall out their attack should they destroy all other buildings on the base. Provided that you are able to 3-star their base, this can potentially allow you to achieve victory on the time tiebreaker.
  +
*The Hidden Tesla's element of surprise can be used to redirect enemies' first attacks onto them rather than onto a more valuable defense. Boxer Giants and Hog Gliders can be more effectively defended against with this tactic; the former will expend its high-damage Power Punch on the Tesla while the latter will crash into the Tesla, potentially stunning it over something else.
  +
*The Hidden Tesla can be used to circumvent the range advantage of a Cannon Cart, because the Tesla only reveals itself well inside the range of their Mortar form. Place them in locations where they commonly appear to mitigate their threat; a common choice is near short-range buildings, which are otherwise easily picked off by Cannon Carts.
  +
*Placing Hidden Teslas in between the outer buildings at higher builder hall levels can lure an opponents defense targeting troop and waste their abilities, such as the drop ships bomb or the boxer giants first punch. It can potentially decide between a 2 and a 6 star defense.

Upgrade Differences
*When initially constructed, the top of the tower has a wooden platform, with metal coils and a metal cone with a sphere on top protruding from the platform, with a cross-shaped stone support under it and a wire connecting to the back right support. The tower consists of a tall, slender wooden lattice structure with a wire coiled up the right pillar. On each side of the tower's base are what appear to be open trapdoors with golden hinges, evidence of the fact that it buries oneself under the ground until an enemy comes through.
  +
**At level 2, it gains two additional empty metal coils without wires connected to the cross-shaped support with a piece of crooked metal and wire, hanging down from the platform. The wire no longer connects to the back right support.
  +
**At level 3, a second set of empty metal coils is added. The tower gets a second wire coiled up for support on the left pillar. The base gain some stone foundation on each pillar and the inner side of the tower.
  +
**At level 4, the metal cone acquires its namesake Tesla coil at the top, forming a torus to surround the cone and has a wire run across each coil. The base of the platform turns into metal. The bolt that the Hidden Tesla fires becomes thicker.
  +
**At level 5, the metal cone, crooked metal pieces connecting the empty coils, and the pillar stone support turns into gold. A third coil of wire appears on the front pillar on the tower.
  +
**At level 6, the Tesla coil around the cone and the wire connecting the cross-shaped support and crooked metal piece turn golden as well. The bolt that the Hidden Tesla fires becomes thicker again.
  +
**At level 7, the Tesla coil is replaced with three bronze rings increasing in size, seemingly levitated over a black, stepped, circular tower, and the base of it become octagonal as the corners are truncated. The empty metal coil become darker and the crooked metal piece turns brass and only connects to the side. The wooden lattice structure of the building is replaced with thicker horizontal wood planks, the inner stone foundation is removed, and the tower and gold foundation are bigger. The three smaller wire coils on the tower supports disappear and are replaced with a thicker coil of wire running up the front pillar. When it fires, the rings glow a steady blue.
  +
**At level 8, the horizontal bronze rings are replaced with five yellow transformer coils with a black square plastic shell, the top and bottom is connected by two thin lines on opposite side, with a bump on top, the middle one has a gold bump and the other four spread diagonally outwards. The crooked metal piece connects to the corners instead. More wires coil up the left and right pillars and spikes are added on the wood planks. Zaps of electricity jump from the tower several times per minute.
  +
**At level 9, the transformer coils are now reduced from 5 to 4 lined up as a square. The coils have much thicker golden wires, the top shell is octagonal with a rectangular piece of gold hold on by some black plastic, the octagonal shell forms a square in the middle and is filled with a blue electrode, each is separated by a plastic plate, and placed on top of an indented circular platform. Each each cardinal side of the platform is separated by gold with grooves that hold the plastic plates in place. The empty metal coils finally gain some yellow coils. The black wires wrapped around the pillar are thicker.
  +
**At level 10, the transformer coils are replaced with what appears to be a metal truncated icosahedron (football pattern) with a protruding hexagonal plates every two plates, on top of two octagonal gold plates, on a wooden platform that has a cross-shaped stone support with a square wire running through them, each on top of 3 brass ring only appearing at the side, and big gold corner pieces. The black wires around the pillar disappear, and the tower itself is constructed of much thicker wood and is reinforced by two diagonal wood planks from top to bottom, and the golden foundation now has pentagonal black metal bolts on each side. Coils with brass shell is added to each side of the base between the foundation, a wire from the left front coil runs up to the middle of the diagonal planks and turns right, twist around the corner and turns up at the middle of the planks at the right side, each middle of the planks has a pentagonal brass bolt holding the wire in place, and the wire finally connects to the brass ring on the platform. The wooden trapdoors are replaced with sturdier metallic ones, hinges are no longer visible but there are two metal lines run across the top before they open.

*The Hidden Tesla is one of the only defenses in the Builder Base which takes up a 2x2 space. The other being the Firecrackers.

*The Hidden Tesla is one of the few defenses to have appeared in both villages. Other Defensive Buildings that appeared in both villages include the Cannon, Archer Tower, and Walls, though in the latter's case the models are different for both the Archer Tower and Walls.

*The Hidden Tesla gets its name and appearance from the Tesla coil, invented by the scientist Nikola Tesla. Tesla coils wirelessly transmit electricity to the destination; the way tesla coils transmit electricity appears similar to how the Hidden Tesla attacks.

Summary

  • The Hidden Tesla is a single-target defensive building unlocked at Builder Hall level 3. Before it begins attacking, the Hidden Tesla remains completely hidden to the attacker. Once a unit is within 6 tiles of the Tesla, the Tesla emerges from the ground and begins attacking. Like its Home Village counterpart, it automatically emerges from the ground if it's still hidden when at least 51% of the stage it is in is destroyed.
  • It attacks enemies with electricity, just like its Home Village counterpart. It has the same fire rate and range as it too, however, its damage compared to equivalently leveled Hidden Teslas in the Home Village is higher at low levels, but lower at high levels.

Strategies

Offensive Strategy

  • Enemies need a 2x2 clear space for a Hidden Tesla, evaluate the worst place for a Tesla placement and deploy accordingly.
  • Sneaky Archers can show you the location of a Hidden Tesla, even when invisible. Placing one Sneaky Archer of the relative level or will be able to take down the Hidden Tesla.
  • You can use the Villagers clapping to identify the location of the Hidden Tesla, as the villagers will 'approve' nothing (which is really a Hidden Tesla). This will only work during the planning time however, and has the potential to back fire if you only focus on the Villagers during this time.
  • At Builder Hall 6 or higher, it is sometimes possible to deduce the number of Hidden Teslas placed on a stage, due to the quota of defensive buildings. Knowing this number for the first stage is useful, as one can plan their attacks for both stages accordingly. If one counts non-Tesla defenses and finds this number equals the quota, this means that there will not be any Hidden Teslas on the stage, and that they are all placed on the other stage.
    • On the other hand, it may also be possible to deduce the number of Hidden Teslas based on the minimum number of defensive buildings on a stage (this number equals the difference between the stage quota and total defenses available). For example, at Builder Hall 10 (where the minimum number of defenses on a stage is 13, assuming the X-Bow is built), counting only 10 non-Teslas on a stage means that all three Hidden Teslas will be present on that stage.

Defensive Strategy

  • The Hidden Tesla can be used to lure your opponent into an air attack, then take out the air units quite quickly. This is very effective at Builder Hall level 3 as they only have Beta Minions; when your opponent destroys your Firecrackers and Archer Tower, they will send in their Beta Minions only to get destroyed by your Hidden Tesla.
  • You can place a Hidden Tesla at the corner of a base (far away from everything else on the base) as a tactic to stall enemy attacks.
  • The Hidden Tesla's element of surprise can be used to redirect enemies' first attacks onto them rather than onto a more valuable defense. Boxer Giants and Hog Gliders can be more effectively defended against with this tactic; the former will expend its high-damage Power Punch on the Tesla while the latter will crash into the Tesla, potentially stunning it over something else.
  • The Hidden Tesla can be used to circumvent the range advantage of a Cannon Cart, because the Tesla only reveals itself well inside the range of their Mortar form. Place them in locations where they commonly appear to mitigate their threat; a common choice is near short-range buildings, which are otherwise easily picked off by Cannon Carts.
  • Placing Hidden Teslas in between the outer buildings at higher builder hall levels can lure an opponents defense targeting troop and waste their abilities, such as the drop ships bomb or the boxer giants first punch. It can potentially decide between a 2 and a 6 star defense.

Upgrade Differences

  • When initially constructed, the top of the tower has a wooden platform, with metal coils and a metal cone with a sphere on top protruding from the platform, with a cross-shaped stone support under it and a wire connecting to the back right support. The tower consists of a tall, slender wooden lattice structure with a wire coiled up the right pillar. On each side of the tower's base are what appear to be open trapdoors with golden hinges, evidence of the fact that it buries oneself under the ground until an enemy comes through.
    • At level 2, it gains two additional empty metal coils without wires connected to the cross-shaped support with a piece of crooked metal and wire, hanging down from the platform. The wire no longer connects to the back right support.
    • At level 3, a second set of empty metal coils is added. The tower gets a second wire coiled up for support on the left pillar. The base gain some stone foundation on each pillar and the inner side of the tower.
    • At level 4, the metal cone acquires its namesake Tesla coil at the top, forming a torus to surround the cone and has a wire run across each coil. The base of the platform turns into metal. The bolt that the Hidden Tesla fires becomes thicker.
    • At level 5, the metal cone, crooked metal pieces connecting the empty coils, and the pillar stone support turns into gold. A third coil of wire appears on the front pillar on the tower.
    • At level 6, the Tesla coil around the cone and the wire connecting the cross-shaped support and crooked metal piece turn golden as well. The bolt that the Hidden Tesla fires becomes thicker again.
    • At level 7, the Tesla coil is replaced with three bronze rings increasing in size, seemingly levitated over a black, stepped, circular tower, and the base of it become octagonal as the corners are truncated.
    • At level 8, the horizontal bronze rings are replaced with five yellow transformer coils with a black square plastic shell, the top and bottom is connected by two thin lines on opposite side, with a bump on top, the middle one has a gold bump and the other four spread diagonally outwards. The crooked metal piece connects to the corners instead. More wires coil up the left and right pillars and spikes are added on the wood planks. Zaps of electricity jump from the tower several times per minute.
    • At level 9, the transformer coils are now reduced from 5 to 4 lined up as a square.
    • At level 10, the transformer coils are replaced with what appears to be a metal truncated icosahedron (football pattern) with a protruding hexagonal plates every two plates, on top of two octagonal gold plates, on a wooden platform that has a cross-shaped stone support with a square wire running through them, each on top of 3 brass ring only appearing at the side, and big gold corner pieces.

Trivia

  • The Hidden Tesla is one of the only defenses in the Builder Base which takes up a 2x2 space. The other being the Firecrackers.
  • The Hidden Tesla is one of the few defenses to have appeared in both villages. Other defenses that appeared in both villages include the Cannon, Archer Tower, and Walls, though in the latter's case the models are different for both the Archer Tower and Walls.
  • The Hidden Tesla gets its name and appearance from the Tesla coil, invented by the scientist Nikola Tesla. Tesla coils wirelessly transmit electricity to the destination; the way tesla coils transmit electricity appears similar to how the Hidden Tesla attacks.
  • Defense-targeting troops will not target a Tesla until it is revealed, even if all other defenses are destroyed.
  • The level 7 Tesla has the same top piece as the level 7 Laboratory.
    • In Clash Royale, the card "Sparky" shares the same feature.
  • In Clash Royale, the Tesla resembles a level 1 Tesla from Clash of Clans.
    • Unlike in Clash of Clans however, the Tesla in Clash Royale retreats back to the underground when there are no targets in its range.
