Currently, there are 22 different types of Magic Items. These Magic Items are subdivided into five categories:

Books

Books are a type of Magic Item that is used to complete upgrades. Each book can be used to complete one and only one upgrade. Note that the player has to start an upgrade in order to use a relevant book, so they will need to spend their resources to utilize the book. Players can hold one of each at a time. There are currently 5 types of books.

Book of Fighting

A Book of Fighting

"Filled with very efficient training programs, this magical book can be used to instantly complete any ongoing troop upgrade. Works in both villages!"

The Book of Fighting is a book whose functionality is to allow the player to instantly complete any ongoing troop upgrade within the Laboratory or Star Laboratory. It can be applied on any troop or Siege Machine, but nothing more.

The Book of Spells is a book allowing the player to instantly complete any ongoing spell upgrade within the Laboratory. It applies to all spell upgrades, but nothing more.

Buy price: 925 Gems, sell price: 50 Gems.

Book of Heroes

A Book of Heroes

"Full of heroic tales and sound advice, this magical book can be used to instantly complete any ongoing hero upgrade. Works in both villages!"

The Book of Heroes is a book that allows the player to instantly complete a single Hero upgrade in either village. It can be used on any of the four Heroes, but nothing more.

Buy price: 500 Gems, sell price: 50 Gems.

Book of Everything

A Book of Everything

"This extremely powerful magical encyclopedia can be used to instantly complete any ongoing upgrade. Works in both villages!"

The Book of Everything allows the player to instantly complete any ongoing upgrade in either village. It is a combination of the other four books, versatile enough to apply to any upgrade everywhere. This is the most valuable book and possibly magic item in the game.

If the player has a Book of Everything AND any other book, the Book of Everything can't be used for the purpose of the other mentioned book unless that specific book is used/sold.

This is the only book that is not available from the Trader. It can only be obtained through events, buying them from the Shop with real money (whenever such an offer is available), or through the Season Challenges.

Sell price: 50 Gems.

Potions

Potions are a type of Magic Item used to boost certain aspects of gameplay for a short period of time. This is in contrast to the Books, which yield permanent effects. Players can hold five of each type of potion. There are currently 7 types of potions.

Power Potion

A Power Potion

"This strong-smelling magical brew can boost your troops and spells to the maximum level allowed by your Laboratory for 1h. Works in both villages!"

The old boost troops button.

The Power Potion is a potion that, when used, boosts the player's troops and spells to the maximum level allowed by the player's Laboratory and Star Laboratory for 1 hour. It can be used before any battle by tapping the "Boost Troops" button (shown below right), including Clan War battles. While the potion is active, troops and spells that the player has will display a bluish flame for their level. However, this only applies to troops or spells the player has unlocked; any troops or spells that are not yet unlocked cannot be used at all. It also does not apply to Heroes, nor does it apply to their summoned troops (if any).

Power Potions are unavailable to use when all of the player's units are at the maximum level allowed by their Laboratory or Star Laboratory level.

The timer of the Power Potion, works slightly differently compared to other timers in the game. Unlike most other timers, which pause briefly every time your village is loaded, the Power Potion's timer never pauses, so as a result they may expire before other 1-hour timers like that from a Training Potion. The same is true for the Hero Potion's timer.

Buy price: 300 Gems, sell price: 10 Gems.

Resource Potion

A Resource Potion

"A haste spell turned into a potion, this magical elixir can greatly boost your resource collector efficiency for 1d. Works in Home Village."

The Resource Potion is a potion that, when used, boosts all of the player's Gold Mines, Elixir Collectors, and Dark Elixir Drills within the Home Village for 1 day. It is a substitute to using Gems to achieve the same effect. However, it does not apply to the Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors in the Builder Base, as it only works in Home Village.

This potion is one of the four potions that can also be bought with league medals.

Buy price: 115 Gems or 10 League Medals, sell price: 10 Gems.

Training Potion

A Training Potion

"This energetic elixir boosts your army production, increasing efficiency of barracks, spell factories, and hero regeneration. Works in Home Village."

The Training Potion is a potion that, when used, boosts the player's army buildings in the Home Village for 1 hour. This applies to the Barracks, Dark Barracks, Spell Factory, Dark Spell Factory, Workshop, and all the Hero altars. Like the Resource Potion, it is a substitute to using Gems to achieve the same effect. However, it does not apply to the Builder Barracks and the Battle Machine Altar in the Builder Base; the Builder Barracks' troop training and the Battle Machine's regeneration no longer take time.

This potion is one of the four potions that can also be bought with league medals.

Buy price: 25 Gems or 10 League Medals, sell price: 10 Gems.

Builder Potion

A Builder Potion

"Brewed by the Builder in case of emergency all-nighters, this invigorating potion allows your builders to work 10x faster for 1h. Works in Home Village!"

The Builder Potion is a potion that boosts the player's Builders in the Home Village for 1 hour. While active, all Builders will work ten times as fast as normal. Effectively this gains nine hours' worth of build time per active builder. Since it works only in the Home Village it will not affect the Master Builder if he's not working in the Home Village.

This potion is one of the four potions that can also be bought with league medals.

Buy price: 285 Gems or 30 League Medals, sell price: 10 Gems.

Clock Tower Potion

A Clock Tower Potion

"This thick elixir made from ground-up magic cogs activates your Clock Tower boost for 30m. Works in Builder Base."

The Clock Tower Potion is a potion that boosts the player's Clock Tower in the Builder Base for 30 minutes. It can be stacked with the free Clock Tower boost to gain up to 30 more minutes of boost, but you cannot use the free boost if a boost caused by the potion is active. This is effectively a revised Builder Base version of the Builder, Resource and Research Potions combined.

Buy price: 75 Gems, sell price: 10 Gems.

Hero Potion

A Hero Potion

"Temporarily add up to +5 levels to all Heroes for 1h. Temporary levels cannot exceed the maximum level determined by Town Hall level."

The Hero Potion is a potion that boosts the player's Heroes by 5 levels for 1 hour. It can only raise their levels up to the maximum allowed by the Town Hall or Builder Hall; for example, a Town Hall 7 player using the potion when his Barbarian King is level 2 will only see it go up to level 5 with the potion, rather than level 7.

Like with the Power Potion, the Hero Potion can be used just before the start of a battle by tapping the "Boost Heroes" button. While the potion is active, the Heroes' levels, as well as their altars, will sport a subtle pink tint. "+5" bubbles will also appear around the altars.

Hero Potions are unavailable to use when all of the player's Heroes are at the maximum level allowed by their Town Hall or Builder Hall level.

The timer of the Hero Potion, like the Power Potion, works slightly differently compared to other timers in the game. Unlike other timers, which pause briefly every time your village is loaded, the Hero Potion and Power Potion timers never pause, so as a result they may expire before 1-hour timers like that from a Training Potion.

Buy price: 300 Gems, sell price: 10 Gems.

Research Potion

A Research Potion

"This strange substance somehow helps the mysterious Wizards inside the Laboratory research 24x faster for 1h. Works in Home Village!"

The Research Potion is a potion that boosts the player's Laboratory in the Home Village for 1 hour. While active, the Laboratory will work 24 times as fast as normal, effectively gaining 23 hours' worth of research time. Since it only works in the Home Village, it will not affect the Star Laboratory.

This potion is one of the four potions that can also be bought with league medals.

Buy price: 120 Gems or 20 League Medals, sell price: 10 Gems

Hammers

Hammers are a type of Magic Item that instantly starts and completes an upgrade. They are similar to books, however they will instantly start (and complete) the upgrade by its use, unlike books, which can only be used to complete an upgrade.

Hammers can be used to bypass a player's storage limits; a Hammer can instantly complete an upgrade even if the player has insufficient resource storage to start the upgrade normally. However, Hammers cannot be used to finish any upgrades that have already been started.

Hammers are still restricted by Town Hall, Builder Hall, Laboratory and Star Laboratory levels where relevant. The player cannot upgrade a building past the maximum level allowed by their Town Hall or Builder Hall, whereas the player will be unable to access the upgrade screen for a unit they have that is at the maximum level allowed by their Laboratory or Star Laboratory. The Town Hall and Builder Hall themselves cannot be upgraded with hammers if the required buildings are not yet built.

Also note that Hammer of Building/Heroes still needs a free builder of that Village to use. When the Laboratory or Star Laboratory is working, the player cannot do something equivalent to some other Supercell games - "use a hammer on another item without interrupting the ongoing upgrade".

Unlike other Magic Items, Hammers are only obtainable by purchasing them with League Medals in the Shop and each Hammer has a 7-day cooldown. Also, there's no such thing as "Hammer of everything."

However, you still need a free Builder in order to perform upgrades with the Wall Rings. You can hold up to 25 Wall Rings at once.
