- For the Home Village counterpart, see Minion.
Level 1-5
Summary
- The Minion Horde is a squad available in the Clan Capital, available when the Minion Barracks is constructed (this requires a level 2 District Hall in the Barbarian Camp district, and consequently Capital Hall level 3).
- The squad deploys six Minions, which are fast air troops with low hitpoints that can be used to exploit weaknesses of ground-only defenses such as Cannons.
- Minions have no preferred target when attacking; they will simply attack the closest building. However, if they become aware of enemy defending troops stationed in defense posts (either by being attacked themselves or by being near another friendly troop under attack), and can fight back against them, they will leave their previously targeted building and instead engage the enemy troops. Once all of the nearby enemy troops are defeated, the Minions will proceed to attack the nearest structure.
Strategy
Offensive
- Like Minions in the Home Village, the Minion Horde are low health air troops that are best used for cleaning up undefended trash buildings at corners (excluding defenses).
- They are also great in groups with Rocket Balloons and Super Dragons, as the former can soar ahead and dispose of most defenses quickly, the latter can tank the damage while also doing lots of damage, while the Minion Hordes, in large numbers, can swarm other building closer to the core of the capital base.
- Flying Fortresses are also effective for tanking, but can be easily taken out by the Inferno Tower or Zap Traps and takes up too much housing space just for some damage on defenses. Once it is taken out, your remaining Minions would be decimated by air-targeting area splash defenses, especially the Air Bombs or Super Wizard Towers.
- Minion Hordes are also great for destroying ground-only defenses such as Cannons, and usually, when there are no Air Defenses and Spear Throwers left can result in great damage, provided that you have sufficient time to do so.
- Since they are vulnerable to Mines, try to look for places where one could be potentially hiding and use stronger air troops to waste it.
- As is the case with all flying units, Spear Throwers, Super Wizard Towers, Air Bombs, and Air Defenses (if possible) should be taken out before deploying Minion Hordes.
- Minion Hordes can overpower Air Defenses as they are single-target defenses, and will take too much time to retarget, allowing them to inflict massive damage.
- Using Super Giants as a distraction when using Minions to attack other buildings is a good idea since they can destroy Defensive buildings and occupy those like the Spear Thrower while the Minions can demolish buildings nearby since they do not have any preferred targets. However, beware of Air Defenses since the Super Giants cannot occupy its attention.
- It can also be used to clear houses on the outside due to it being fast and dealing high damage.
Defensive
- Minions are usually one-shot by most defenses, such as the Air Defense and Spear Thrower, however since the Minions are always deployed in hordes, it is best to use splash defenses, like Air Bombs, which can demolish one or many Minion Horde if they are all grouped up closely enough.
- Super Wizard Towers are also viable, although only when it is to deal with a single Minion Horde. Because of the defense's chain attack, it can easily severely damage the minions, and can destroy one minion per blast if both the Minion Horde and the tower are the same level.
- However, using one medium/high health troop, such as a Rocket Balloon or Super Dragon, plus a Healing Spell can virtually eliminate all damage from the Minion Horde if the same condition from above applies, just make sure that the Super Wizard Tower's primary target is the medium/high health troop in question or the Tower will still kill one minion per blast. The Flying Fortress is especially effective for this because it will spawn distraction units that the Super Wizard Tower will chain onto instead of the Minions.
- Try to place Mines near locations where Minions are likely to be placed in large numbers.
- In this regard, place all Mines deeper inside your base. With sufficient firepower, Minions cannot trigger it before they were easily destroyed by the defenses.
- Properly cover the Air Defense, Super Wizard Towers and Air Bombs so that Minions cannot sneak in and be protected by stronger individual troops. Minions in large numbers are unstoppable if they are not dealt with splash damage or rapid-fire.
- However, this can be countered if the opponent chooses to use Flying Fortresses, since these defenses will not be able to take the Flying Fortress out quickly before they are demolished by Minions.
- Since Minions are normally used as cleanup troops, they rarely come alone. Try to counter strategies they do well with instead.
- Despite having a housing space of 10 and 6 minions, the minion has 2 housing space, and 6 minions would equal 12 in the home village.

Trivia
- You can have a maximum of 25 Minion Hordes at one time in a complete set of fully upgraded Army Camps, for a total of 150 Minions.
- The Minion was added in the 12 March 2013 update, along with the Hog Rider and Valkyrie, making them the first Dark Elixir Troops to be added to the game.
- The design of the Minions resembles gargoyles. The gargoyle is a fantasy and horror monster inspired by the gargoyle architectural element. While they were believed in mythology to frighten away evil spirits, the idea of such statues physically coming to life is a more recent notion. They are usually made of magically animated or transformed stone, but have animal or chimera traits and are often guardians of a place such as a cathedral or castle. They can also be depicted as vessels for demonic possession or as a living species resembling statues.
- In the Japanese and French language settings of the game, the Minion's name translates to "Gargoyle".
- The Minion is the fastest flying unit, and one of the fastest troops overall along with the Goblin, Sneaky Goblin, and Headhunter.
- The Minion, referred as gargoyle, was suggested by a person on the forums, on January 13, 2013.
- Compared to their Clash Royale counterpart, the Minion vomits Dark Elixir, rather than throwing it with their arms.
- This might explain why the Minions in Clash of Clans have a noticeably longer range than those in Clash Royale.
- The Clash of Clans Minion Horde also shares the same 3D Card render as the 3 elixir Minions in Clash Royale.
