"Throws big spears at enemies on the ground and in the air. Very intimidating."

Summary
- The Spear Thrower functions similarly to Archer Towers in the Home Village and Builder Base in that it targets both ground and air, has a similar range and a moderate attack speed.
- Spear Throwers are among the first defensive buildings unlocked in the Clan Capital, available at Clan Capital level 1.
- Spear Throwers are rather versatile structures. They are able to target both ground and air units, and they have excellent range. This versatility means that they should form the cornerstone of every district's defense.
- They are single-target defenses. However, they are less damaging than other single-target defenses such as Cannons or Air Defenses.
Strategies
Defensive Strategy
- Spear Throwers can target both ground and air units at an amazing distance. Therefore, it is generally a good idea to place them on the outer perimeter of the district. Doing so allows players to capitalize on the excellent range and provides good coverage for the rest of the defenses.
- As Spear Throwers have the ability to target both ground and air units, a good strategy would be to place all of the other defenses within the range of at least one Spear Thrower.
- It is typically a good idea to upgrade Spear Throwers before you upgrade Cannons. Although they are more expensive and take longer to upgrade than similar-level Cannons, Spear Throwers have more range and can target air units as well as ground units.
- Use the long range of the Spear Thrower by placing it behind your close range defenses like the Bomb Tower, Multi Cannon, and even the regular Cannon.
- It is typically wise to put an Spear thrower near a Cannon or Multi Mortar due to the fact that neither of these two defenses can target air units.
- Placing a Super Wizard Tower or Mines (set to air mode) near an Spear Thrower can help with its single-target weakness, especially against hordes of Minion Hordes and Rocket Balloons.
- You can place it on the opposite side of a river or lake for even longer range not hampered by buildings around it, but beware of Rocket Balloons, as they can quickly take it out.
Offensive Strategy
- Due to its long range, it can be hard to snipe off buildings protected by the Spear Thrower using Sneaky Archers or Minion Hordes, though Super Barbarians are tankier and will last longer.
- Their ability to target both ground and air units makes Spear Throwers formidable defenders. However, Spear Throwers are only able to damage one unit at a time. This makes it very easy to overwhelm them with large groups of Sneaky Archers or Super Barbarians.
- If a Spear Thrower is unprotected (for example, on the opposite side of a lake or river with no buildings in front of it), you can use Rocket Balloons to quickly destroy it. Their medium health, along with their speed and the Spear Thrower's low DPS, will allow them to quickly reach the Spear Thrower and destroy it.
- The best choices for attack are high health troops combined with low health-high attack troops, as the high health troops will soak up all the damage, leaving the low health ones to attack.
Upgrade Differences
- Spear Throwers undergo significant visual changes at levels 2, 3, and 5.
- When initially rebuilt, it resembles a large wooden crossbow that uses spears as its ammunition, supported with ropes and metal bolts. It is mounted on a wooden platform and a foundation made from wooden legs that are reinforced with ropes and stone pads.
- At level 2, the wooden platform receives metal fittings at each of the upper corners. The foundation's base is now heavily reinforced with stone.
- At level 3, the entire crossbow itself receives riveted metal reinforcements along the bow and the barrel's end, and the ropes holding it together are removed. Also, the opening of the barrel becomes circular in shape, and the spears' heads grow slightly bigger. The limbs of the crossbow get replaced with new symbolic short metal limbs.
- At level 4, the crossbow's wood is painted with a red color. The upper part of the wooden platform with metal frames is replaced with solid stone. The wooden part of the foundation also gets a red color to match the crossbow's. For the legs, the stone extends up to the platform, connecting them as it becomes thinner.
- At level 5, all the metal reinforcements in the crossbow are replaced with gold and a golden symbol is added on the bow's top, that matches the symbol shape of the bow's limbs. The foundation receives a red-painted wooden layer and a metal base for each of the legs.
