"This immobile machine launches barrel loads of Troops and Clan Castle Troops at your allies in battle to support them. Each barrel can hold multiple Troops, including one Clan Castle Troop. There’s only a few barrels inside, so make them count!"

Summary

  • The Troop Launcher is the eighth and currently the last Siege Machine unlocked when the Workshop is upgraded to level 8, which requires Town Hall level 16.
  • When deployed, the Troop Launcher will remain stationary in its deployed location, and launch barrels of troops towards other attacking troops. The barrels each contain Barbarians, Archers, Giants, Wall Breakers, and a Clan Castle troop (if there are any remaining). The Giant always spawns first to be targeted.
    • Deployment of Clan Castle troops follows the standard order of deployment, prioritizing lowest-housing troops first.
  • The Troop Launcher slowly loses hitpoints as it is deployed. Once it has launched a certain amount of barrels, it is immediately destroyed. Once destroyed through any means (taking enough damage, launching all of its barrels, or the player manually destroying it), it deploys the remaining Clan Castle troops where the Troop Launcher is located.
  • The level of the troops spawned by the Troop Launcher depends on the level of the Troop Launcher and not on the level of troops the player has researched in the Laboratory.
  • Upgrading the Troop Launcher increases the level of the troops inside the barrels, and may also increase the quantity of troops as well as the number of barrels launched. The lifetime and hitpoints of the Troop Launcher also increase as well.
  • The Troop Launcher requires a level 10 Clan Castle in order to be received as a Clan Castle reinforcement. This means that the usage of the Troop Launcher is only limited to players at Town Hall 14 and above. Its housing capacity is the same as the player's current Clan Castle level, although it is only limited to a number of barrels.
  • The Troop Launcher cannot start shooting any barrels if there is only a unit worth 1 housing space deployed, and can only be activated if a unit with at least 2 housing space is deployed, or two troops worth one housing space and are close to each other.
    • Skeletons and Bats summoned by their respective spells also cannot activate the Troop Launcher for balancing reasons.
    • On the other hand, Heroes can activate it.
  • After the initial barrel has been launched, the Troop Launcher may stay activated while the Giants stay alive, giving the Siege Machine more time to launch another barrel, and the cycle repeats until it is destroyed, either when it has launched all its barrels or being destroyed by defenses.
  • The Troop Launcher prioritizes supporting the group with the largest group of highest housing space, and can recalculate the amount of housing space of units for each barrel shot, similar to the Eagle Artillery.
    • For example, if a Balloon is deployed on one side and a Dragon on another at the same time, the Troop Launcher prioritizes the Dragon since it has more housing space.
      • However, if the Balloon was deployed first before the Dragon, the Troop Launcher will prioritize throwing the barrels first at the Balloon before switching to support the Dragon.
  • The Troop Launcher's range is unlimited, as you can summon it in one corner and a unit on the other if the player wanted.
    • However, it takes more time for the barrel to land onto that unit the farther said unit is, as compared to deploying that unit nearer to the Troop Launcher.
  • If the Troop Launcher was destroyed before it deploys any of its remaining barrels, the remaining barrels will be wasted, but any Clan Castle troops inside will still be deployed where the Siege Machine was destroyed.

Strategies

Offensive Strategies

  • Due to its unlimited range, the Troop Launcher can be used to support an army from the other side of the base. One can deploy a Troop Launcher on a portion of the base, then, once all of the barrels are destroyed, the Clan Castle troops come out to clean up.
  • Since the Troop Launcher can deploy one Clan Castle troop for each barrel, using Archers, Barbarians or Goblins inside it can delay the stronger units, allowing the Troop Launcher to deploy the rest of the Clan Castle troops (usually Valkyries) to wipe out the side of the base.
    • Due to the barrel limit, these aforementioned one-housing space units can be placed inside the Troop Launcher so that the barrels will deploy these units so that when it runs out of barrels, stronger Clan Castle troops will be deployed afterwards, creating an excellent funnel after the Giants, Barbarians, Archers and Wall Breakers get deployed for each barrel.

Defensive Strategies

  • The Troop Launcher has low health. You can place traps and long-ranged defenses like Archer Towers, Mortars or X-Bows where you think the opponent will place their Troop Launcher.

Deployment Order

  • In battle, multiple troops are stationed in the Troop Launcher, one unit is deployed in a predetermined order using three criteria for each barrel.
    • The first criteria is housing space; troops with lower housing space will leave the Troop Launcher before troops with higher housing space. For example, a Balloon (taking 5 housing space) will be deployed from the barrel before a Dragon (taking 20 housing space).
    • Between troops with the same housing space, the deployment order is determined by an internal ID. This ID creates a seemingly arbitrary choice of deployment order, but generally, troops that have been added to the game earlier (or appear before others, if added at the same time) deploy before troops added to the game later. The below list shows all deployment orders between troops with the same housing space:
    • For the troops of the same type, they leave from lowest to highest level, so a level 2 Archer always deploys before a level 4 one.

Upgrade Differences

  • Initially, the Troop Launcher appears to be a caravan with red wood as a shield, and wooden barrels with iron bands and bolts as its wheels. At the top, there are circular metal rings, and a Spring Trap at the top center part of the platform, which is similar to the Push Trap with a white "X" mark, except that it can rotate in different directions. When it is about to attack, a barrel appears on top of the Spring Trap before launching it up into the air and the barrel falls down into the group with the most housing space.
  • At level 2, the barrel "wheels" gain iron plates.
  • At level 3, the wooden poles gain iron spear heads.
  • At level 4, the metal rings turn into a gold-like brass color.

Trivia

General

  • When deployed, the Troop Launcher briefly behaves like a car, but when its front barrels move backward, the heavy weight at the front causes the caravan to fall at the front, which readies the Spring Trap to launch barrels, facing against the direction it was deployed from.
  • Despite the barrels behind are reinforced with iron plates of levels 2-4 Troop Launcher, the barrels it launches still retain the appearance when it was at 1, which are mostly comprised of wood and have metallic bands.

Comparisons

  • The Troop Launcher is the third Siege Machine whose name is not an alliteration, and is one of the three Siege Machines with a non-alliterative name, the other two being the Siege Barracks and the Battle Drill.
  • The Troop Launcher and the Siege Barracks are the only Siege Machines to deploy units without the need of Clan Castle troops.
    • However, for it to spawn units, a troop with at least 2 housing space is needed.
  • If there are no units inside the Troop Launcher, including no Heroes, troops and spells, except for a troop with one housing space and if there is only the Troop Launcher available, when you deploy the Troop Launcher, the battle will end if the Troop Launcher had not yet deployed after that unit was destroyed. [needs verification]
    • However, this does not happen if there a unit with at least two housing space, where it will begin to deploy these units, where the battle will end if all the units have been defeated.
  • The Troop Launcher is the only Siege Machine to destroy itself immediately once it has reached its limit, even if it has 70% of its health remaining.
    • The player can also destroy it manually, however.
  • The Troop Launcher is the only Siege Machine to prioritize allied units, unlike other Siege Machines, which target either the Town Hall or defenses.
