This question has come up so many times I thought it might be a good idea to create a blog entry about this. Hopefully I can clear up any remaining confusion about what the catch-up point is, what it isn't, and how it is calculated.

On each of the production building pages (Gold Mine, Elixir Collector or Dark Elixir Drill), the following definition of "catch-up point" is given:

But this seemingly-simple description makes some very powerful statements, which I will try to describe in more detail below.

Every production building upgrade is beneficial in the long term, for two reasons:

    1. Higher level production buildings can produce resources faster.
    2. They can hold more resources internally, and can therefore produce for longer periods of time before…

    The Trivialities of Trivia

    September 27, 2014 by Spottra

details, considerations, or pieces of information of little importance or value.
"we fill our days with meaningless trivia"
synonyms: minutiae, minor details, petty detail, niceties, technicalities, trivialities, trifles, trumpery, nonessentials, ephemera; More

Today I'd like to talk a little bit about trivia. We've been seeing a lot of it added to pages recently, and I know many of you are wondering why I've been a little draconian about removing it. I thought I might share with you my thoughts about it.

    Consider the following points:

    • The X-Bow has the smallest number of characters in its name of any other defensive building.
    • The Bomb has the smallest number of characters in its name of any other in-game item available for the player to pur…

Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I would like to talk a little bit about strategy guides, and pass along some advice for potential strategy guide creators out there.

Here on the Clash of Clans Wiki we have a lot of guides for new players, experienced players, guides on running clans, farming for loot, trophy pushing, and many more. Many of these guides are very helpful, and we very much encourage people to share their game knowledge with their fellow Clashers. If you wish to write a strategy guide on any subject, I invite you to check out the Strategy Guides page for more details.

However, I would like to take some time to point out a few things to potential editors that should not only be helpful to anyone deciding to write a guide, but …

    Upgrade Strategy

    June 10, 2014 by Spottra

This was originally a response I wrote on a forum, but I thought it might be useful enough to create a blog entry for it. I've edited it slightly here.

Every single upgrade is beneficial and as countless people have said over and over, ultimately you want to max out everything before moving onto the next Town Hall level. However, at each Town Hall level it takes progressively more and more time to upgrade everything (many months at the highest levels), so what do you upgrade first?

Walls are becoming slightly less important due to the popularity of attacks with air units and/or hog riders (although they are still important and certainly a minimum level of walls is needed), but obviously every defensive upgrade improves your chances of winnin…

    4,000 Edits

    August 27, 2013 by Spottra

Today I was just checking my profile and I happened to notice a nice round number: 4,000 edits! If I am not mistaken, I am the third editor on this wiki to reach that milestone (behind GorillaMan and Badw0lf007). Quite a far cry from my 100-edit blog entry, eh? :)

I had actually intended to write more blog entries than this, but as always life seems to get in the way. So much has happened here on the wiki since I began here back in April, and the game itself has come so far as well. In the last several weeks we've seen a kind of renaissance of interest here; right after anonymous editing was disabled by Wikia back in July, we really lost of lot of views, and I was worried that the wiki might begin to wither and die. The good news is we've c…
